Kenezakia HOUSES owe their name to the great-great-grandfather of the family, Kostantis Adamantios Pappas, whose nickname was “Kenezos”. It is said that this nickname was used to describe an opinionated and stubborn man who passionately supported his views, and it was difficult to change his mind. This is a nickname that has followed the family for five generations.
Nickname
A familiar or humorous name given to a person or thing instead of or as well as the real name. It is a special name that accompanies the person it refers to, created by a person or a group of friends. It is usually inspired by a characteristic of the person to whom it is given or some special point of reference in his life.
The stonebuilt apartment was built by the family's great-great-grandfather,
Kostantis Adamantiou Pappa, as evidenced by the inscription above the door at the south entrance of the house.
The stones used came from the wider area of Lagada and the white stones from the coasts of Asia Minor, specifically from the area of Fokaia or Fokes. They were transferred into Chios by the family boat, called “Agioi Victores”.
The house had been inhabited until 1956 and has remained closed ever since.
In 2022, Alexandros Vavoulis and Dimitra Pappas (great-granddaughter of Kostantis Ad. Pappas) decided to give life to the house again by creating Kenezakia HOUSES.
